Jo Fougner Skaansar belongs to the young generation jazz musicians, with a modern playing style and expression.
He was born in Oslo, Norway 8th of July 1984. Started playing piano by the age of eight, took up the double bass four years, and the electric bass five years later
From 04-
08 Jo was a student at the jazz department in the University in Trondheim, studying jazzbass with Steinar Raknes, Gøran Sjølin, John Pål Inderberg and Mats Eilertsen.
From august 08-10 Jo took a master degree in jazz bass at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. He studied with bassists Bjørn Kjellemyr and Dan Styffe.
Now he is living in Oslo, Norway, playing in several groups, and doing freelance work in a wide spectrum of styles.
Jo released his debut album "Den Blåaste Natt" on ta:lik, January 11, 2010. It got great reviews from the Norwegian press.
